London Eye Trip

Children in Year 1 visited the London Eye as part of our Big Question. Children were able to see most of London and even identified different London Landmarks. We had a lot of children who conquered their fears of getting on the London Eye!

Panathlon - Bowling Finals

On Wednesday 8th February EWPS took part in the Panathlon Bowling finals. We took a group of 6 children to Romford to compete.

They all behaved really well and tried their hardest. Big congratulations to Aleena & Deniz, both received a certificate for scoring over 100 points with Aleena being our highest scorer!

World Book Day

On Friday 3rd March, we celebrated World Book Day as a school and the children and adults dressed up as their favourite book character/author. We spent the whole day focusing on books and reading. We swapped classes so we could read with children in other year groups, completed some reading activities and we even had different teachers and teaching assistants read their favourite book to us. Our Reading Champions played a vital role in the organisation of the day and were extremely helpful supporting other classes and reading to the children. The Reading Champions also chose the winners from each class for the best costume. The names of the children are below. There were so many amazing costumes to choose from and this made the decisions very hard. Well done to everyone for participating in World Book Day!

Poetry Week

This week, the whole school has taken part in Poetry Week. Classes have been exploring poems in their writing lessons and have then created their own poems based on the theme of resilience and strength.

During our reading lessons, the children have recited poems and practised performance poetry ready for a poetry recital in Friday's assembly. Every class from Reception to Year 6, performed a poem they had learnt to the rest of the school. The performances were fantastic and very impressive.

The children had learnt the poems by heart, spoke clearly with different voices and used actions to support the telling of their poems. Well done everyone for putting on such a brilliant poetry recital!

Year 2 Trip - St Paul’s Cathedral

Year 2 visited St Paul's Cathedral on Tuesday as part of their RE unit on 'Why is Easter important to Christians?' We had a fantastic time exploring St Paul's Cathedral and learning more about the Easter story. Our guides reviewed each part of the Easter story with us as we moved around the Cathedral and collected items that represented each part of the story. We then used these items to retell the story as a class. We found out extra information about Easter and how it is celebrated in a Christian Church. We were amazed at how high the dome was as we were able to lay down on the floor and look up at it. There were some brilliant pictures that we were able to discuss with our guide.

Archery Competition

We were fortunate to be asked by Winsor Primary School to compete at their school for an archery event. EWPS children all tried very hard and managed to come 3rd and 5th!

Year 2 Visit to the Hive

Year 2 had a fantastic opportunity to take part in exploring Epping forest. This was related to our big question for quarter 3: What does it take to be an explorer? The children took part in planning out a route using their map skills. They then went out into the forest in groups to follow the route to explore the forest. They were able to identify and name some common wild plants found in the forest, explore and appreciate the natural forest environment and how to treat the environment with care and sensitivity.

Celtic Harmony

Last week, Year 3 enjoyed an amazing trip to Celtic Harmony. We practised hunting, storytelling and flint making and den building. We looked and explored Iron House roundhouses and went back many many years to learn all about the Stone, Bronze and Iron Age!

Well done Year 3 for their brilliant behaviour and attitudes.

King's Coronation Celebration

Ellen Wilkinson had the exciting opportunity to celebrate the King's Coronation on Friday the 5th May 2023. The Day included a range of activities that children completed. This included fun craft activities, baking, making flags, paper chains, crowns, learning the national anthem etc.

The King’s portrait competition proved to be a huge success, many entries from across the school. Winners from each year group were announced and awarded during our King’s Coronation party by the JGB. We also sang the national anthem as a school in our celebration assembly to mark this special occasion. There were delicious platters of food across all the tables. This included a variety of sandwiches including coronation sandwiches too. We also enjoyed the delicious Victorian sponge cakes, cookies and fruit platters.

The JGB had the privilege to take some coronation chicken sandwiches and cakes over to the Beddalls Farm court care home across our school. They really enjoyed seeing the children and everyone had a lovely time celebrating together.

We invited our parents and carers to join us for tea and cake to celebrate the King's Coronation. It was a huge success with many parents enjoying all the rice crispy cakes and cupcakes made by the children from year 1 to year 4 and this was hosted by the JGB . Everyone played a vital role in making this day memorable for  many years to come.

Science dome workshop

On Friday 28th April, years 3, 4 and 5 took part in science Dome workshops, where they had lots of fun whilst learning about science. The science topics that were explored were linked to each year groups science units and all took place in a huge dome. Learning was interactive and hands on and children were amazed and inspired by what they experienced.

Art Matters

On the 26th of April, six  children from the  Art Club took part in the annual Art Matters photo shoot at the University of East London.

They created beautiful jewellery, had their faces painted and then had their photographs taken by a professional photographer.

During their visit to UEL they also  visited  the  art department where they were able to  look at  the artists' work as well as ask questions  about techniques such as printing, sculpting  and working with wood.
