Quarter 3

Chinese New Year at EWPS

We kicked off our Quarter 3 with a Chinese New Year celebration assembly! The whole school enjoyed an incredible performance, led by Confucius Institute at LSBU. The children enjoyed workshops in folk dancing, martial arts, painting and music!

Children's mental health week 2026

The theme this year was 'This is my place'. We explored their sense of belonging and encouraged discussions of how we can make others feel they belong too! We created class mosaics of belonging during their weekly wellbeing session. See examples below.

World Book Day 2026

What an amazing World Book Day we had this year! Thank you to everyone who dressed up and made the day so successful. The costumes were fabulous and the excitement surrounding reading was brilliant! The children all enjoyed listening to the teachers and classroom assistants read to them and swapping classes to read with older and younger children. The children were excited to find out who had won the best costume in the assembly that day. Congratulations to the children who did win and received a book as their prize.

We look forward to continuing to celebrate books and reading in our school and promoting reading for pleasure.

Iroko - Rhythms of Resilience Project

We were proud to participate in an explosion of African drumming, singing and dance, as part of a project titled 'Rhythms of Resilience.' This was coordinated with our school and the Iroko Theatre organisation. We would like to say a huge well done to all of the year 5 children who performed so well and with such confidence. A massive thank you to all the parents who came to watch the showcase, as well as the Deputy Mayor and Arts Editor from Newham Voices, who were also in attendance.

Year 4 Trip to the Church

Year 4 enjoyed a special visit to St Mary Magdalen Church, where they took part in a variety of engaging Easter activities. Throughout the day, the children explored their creativity by designing colourful banners and creating beautiful glass paintings. They also expressed themselves through dance and music, joining in with lively singing sessions. The visit provided a wonderful chance for the children to work together, try new skills, and reflect on the meaning of Easter in a fun and interactive way.

Year 5 and Year 6 Music Trips

Year 6 had the opportunity to visit the Barbican to watch ‘The King who tried to change his fate’. The storytelling was brought to life by the London Symphony Orchestra who performed pieces by famous composers such as Verdi and Tchaikovsky. Prior to the performance, the various orchestra sections were explained to the children and there were opportunities for audience participation throughout.

Year 5 also had an absolutely fantastic time visiting the Royal Festival Hall and experiencing Orchestra Unwrapped! It was such a wonderful opportunity to truly listen, connect, and feel the powerful impact of classical music, beautifully brought to life by the Philharmonia Orchestra. The whole experience was inspiring, uplifting, and unforgettable—a real celebration of music that left us feeling energized and deeply moved.

Art Club's trip to the London College of Fashion

From designing paper clothing to watching the premiere of their very own art video, the day was filled with creativity and awe. Most importantly, the students did a wonderful job representing Ellen Wilkinson Primary School. They conducted themselves with excellence, and we are so proud of how well they modeled our school values during this amazing visit.
