Volunteering

At Ellen Wilkinson we are proud of the the fact that so many of our parents and carers volunteer. So, if you have a little time to spare why not join this amazing group of people? Interested? Please see the information below:

PLEASE NOTE IF YOU ARE NOT A PARENT OF A PUPIL CURRENTLY ATTENDING ELLEN WILKINSON, THEN YOU WILL NEED AN ENHANCED DBS TO VOLUNTEER AT THE SCHOOL

My name is Julie Baker. I am the Pastoral & Welfare Lead/Deputy DSL at Ellen Wilkinson and I also co-ordinate all volunteers at our school. You will usually find me at the pupil entrance on Mitchell Walk and Dove Approach at the beginning of the day and the one in Dove Approach at the end of every school day. If you are interested in volunteering, please feel free to speak to me, or please leave your details with the front office and I will contact you.

How it works

There are a number of ways you can volunteer at Ellen Wilkinson, these include:

  • Accompanying children on school trips
  • Reading with individual or small groups of children
  • Supporting teachers in the classroom
  • Helping at school events such as the Summer Fete
  • Utilising a talent you may have such as cooking

Once you have registered an interest I will arrange a meeting with you to discuss how you would like to volunteer. At this meeting we will also discuss how often you would like to help, your start date and the induction process that will support you.

Although we love having volunteers in school, we do take our safeguarding responsibilities very seriously. Therefore, you will be asked to read and agree to our volunteer contract, which outlines appropriate interaction with the children.

If you become a volunteer on a regular basis, we may ask you to agree to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS formerly CRB) check. Further information about this can be discussed with me during the meeting mentioned above.

All that’s left for me to say is I look forward to hearing from you.
