Chinese New Year Celebrations

As part of our MFL Curriculum, we were able to immerse ourselves in Chinese traditions by celebrating Chinese New Year. As usual, we welcomed our friends from the Confucius Institute, who put on a magnificent show for us. In addition to learning about the Chinese New Year in our Mandarin lessons, some year groups were able to take part in workshops for dance, calligraphy and martial arts.

Year 2 took part in a calligraphy workshop!

Q3: What does it take to be an explorer?

As part of the learning for quarter 3, Year 2 delve deep into what it takes to be an explorer. So far, we have learned about what it means to explore and begun looking at explorers from around the world. They found out lots about Sir Edmund Hillary, and are really excited to learn about Matthew Henson and Felicity Aston, who travelled the Arctic and broke records!

Year 2 have also started learning about New Zealand as part of this unit, as we have build connections with the Ararira Springs Primary School in Lincoln, New Zealand. Starfish & Jellyfish class created some fantastic posters advertising New Zealand, and had a great time learning about the beauty of the islands. We are really excited to share these with our friends in NZ!
